Malnutrition is a great obstacle on the way of development. A nourished family possesses a good income as well as healthy livelihood quality. SSS has been implementing the Nation-Building through Eradicating Malnutrition (NEM) project since September 2012. The project is being implemented on pilot basis in Dainna Union of Tangail Sadar.

The objectives of the project include:

  • Identifying the direct victims of malnutrition and arranging treatment in accordance with such diseases;
  • Financially assisting to undertake income generating activities;
  • Making women concerned about nutrition and balanced diet in-take; and
  • Providing financial and technical assistance to the target people in order to increase nutrition-supply through agricultural production.

The project has already carried out a baseline survey as project implementation device. In addition, in the working area, the project started sensitizing beneficiaries about nutrition, balanced food, production and supply of food-nutrition, production of nutritious food both domestically and commercially, demerits of malnutrition and other related issues through different discussion meetings and workshops. A good number of group members at grassroots have taken loan facilities and already started small scale vegetable gardening, livestock and poultry rearing and fruit gardening targeting and enhancing nutritional status and supply of balanced diet.

As direct consequence of the activity, members of the target families have become much more conscious about balanced diet, nutrition and health. Concerned workers, nutritionists, agri-specialists, fishery experts and IGA officers are providing overall support to the group members. The all out effort of everyone has been gradually developing the project.
