She got married at the age of sixteen, became mother at eighteen. Her child became victim of malnutrition even before birth. Mother did not know how to take care of the child at the time of pregnancy. Now she knows and understands everything. She is the happy mother of a healthy twin. She is none but Shamima. Shamima is 24 now. She lives with her husband Nurnabi Mia at village Ramnagar in Tangail Sadar Upazila. At the first stage of her motherhood, Shamima did not understand much about pregnancy. She did not even have primary conception about antenatal care. But now she has come to the realm of light. She has become a happy mother having the counsel of the CHVs of SSS. Now, she has overcome the hardships of pregnancy completely.
Shamima did not know how safe and riskless it is to breed with the help of a trained SBA or in hospital. Besides this, superstitions and social beliefs debarred her from taking the advantage of modern healthcare. Shamima did not pay any heed to the trained SBAs and CHVs of SSS at the first time. Although the CHVs of Mobile Clinic of SSS tried to deliver the medical services at her doorstep, but all in vain. Shamima’s mother-in-law opposed to the significant counsels of the CHVs. To her, taking the advice of any doctor was totally unnecessary.

After some days, Shamima got pregnant again. But this time, the CHVs succeeded in persuading her husband about the importance of special healthcare during pregnancy. Shamima agreed to undergo the antenatal check-up at the mobile clinic of SSS and finally she began to come to the clinic. In antenatal check up at eight month of pregnancy, she was found as pregnant as high risk group because of her twin pregnancy. SSS medical assistant advised her to receive ANC regularly, referred to SSS Hospital for ultrasonography and some other tests. She came to SSS Hospital accordingly. The medical officer of SSS Hospital examined her thoroughly andconfirmed twin pregnancy and advised her to conduct delivery at hospital. Then she went back home. Medical Assistant of SSS began to provide antenatal check-up to her regularly. After one month she had felt severe lower abdominal pain. One of SBAs heard the news and went to see her and suggested her husband to take his wife to General Hospital or SSS hospital immediately. Her husband brought the patient to General Hospital, gave admission to the hospital on 06 June 2014. She was examined by Gynaecologist. Then with the permission of the patient and her husband the baby was removed by caesarean section under spinal anaesthesia. She gave birth to a female baby and a male baby. Shamima became very much aware of herself and her babies’ health. She now goes to nearest mobile clinic conducted by SSS and receives PNC check-up and health services regularly.

Shamima often says to other pregnant women that every pregnant woman should come under doctor’s treatment and follow doctor’s advice. Shamima’s family has also realized well why a pregnant woman needs antenatal check-up. Shmima returned home happily after one week with her healthy children, safely to her own world. The smile of satisfaction and happiness pours from her face now. Shamima has successfully overcome the barriers of superstitious beliefs and is proudly back to the realm of healthy life.
